Loading a new case is a type of reload. You can fire a crossbow as many times in a full attack action as you could attack if you were using a bow. If you have selected this feat for a hand crossbow or light crossbow, you may fire that weapon as many times in a full-attack action as you could attack if you were using a bow.īenefit: The time required for you to reload any type of crossbow is reduced to a free action, regardless of the type of crossbow used. Reloading a crossbow or firearm still provokes attacks of opportunity. Loading a new case of 5 bolts is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity.īenefit: The time required for you to reload your chosen type of weapon is reduced to a free action (for a hand or light crossbow), a move action (for heavy crossbow or one-handed firearm), or a standard action (two-handed firearm). Load: As long as it holds bolts, you can reload it by pulling the reloading lever (a free action). I even asked my Pathfinder Society Friend, and he said they had no official answer on the subject. I haven't found any real general consensus other than GM fiat. This question came up, and after some Googling research, I've found people have been debating it for about 10 years. Just like a fighter with a BAB of 16 could get 4 attacks (5 with rapid-shot feat) with a bow, a fighter with a BAB of 16 could get 4 attacks with a repeating crossbow as long as it had enough bolts in it (baring it didn't have like 3 or 2 or 1 bolt remaining). Out of curiosity, why are you limiting it to 3 attacks? I think there is no mistakes here but there is always a chance i'm wrong. If that was frustrating then i'll give an example with a repeating heavy crossbow that has 4 bolts in its caseġ.A 6 level fighter (BAB +6) can make up to two attacksĢ.A 11 level fighter (BAB +11) can make up to three attacksģ.A 16 level fighter (BAB +16) can make up to three attacksģ.A 16 level fighter (BAB +16) can make up to four attacks If you have certain feats (rapid reload, crossbow mastery) then you can fire as many shots as you would with a bow, assuming there are bolts in the case. To reload a crossbow if there are bolts in the case is a free actionm meaning that if your BAB is high enough you can attack up to three times in a round. Repeating crossbows have a case on them where the bolts are stored.
